The Benin Traditional Council (BTC) has clarified that the recent incident in which Pedro Obaseki was allegedly manhandled was not authorized by the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR.
In a statement issued by the Secretary of the Council, Frank Irabor, the BTC emphasized that such an action could not have been sanctioned by the revered monarch, describing the Oba of Benin as a peace-loving father to all, whose character and values are firmly rooted in peace and unity.
The Council also cautioned youths against taking the law into their own hands, regardless of the level of provocation. It urged members of the public to always respect the laws of the land and allow appropriate security agencies to handle all issues.
Additionally, the BTC advised social media users to verify information properly before sharing, warning against the spread of unverified or misleading reports.
The statement concluded with the Oba of Benin extending New Year goodwill to the public and reaffirming his commitment to peace and harmony in the land.
