The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has gained about 5,000 new members in Abia State, just one week after former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, joined the party.
The mass defection was led by Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Accord Party. The event took place in his hometown, Umuaku, Ntigha, in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.
Supporters who moved with him said they left their former parties and political groups to fully align with the ADC.
Speaking at the gathering, Bishop Nwankpa said he joined the ADC because he believes in the party’s vision, which focuses on good governance, social justice and sustainable development.
He described the ADC as a strong and progressive party that can restore people’s trust in politics and deliver inclusive leadership.
The new members were officially received by the Abia State ADC Chairman, Don Norman Obinna, who said Nigeria’s political future is gradually tilting towards the ADC.
