Fresh details have emerged following coordinated United States and Nigerian military airstrikes carried out in parts of Sokoto State, targeting suspected terrorist hideouts and transit routes.
Speaking during a live broadcast, ARISE News Chief Correspondent in Sokoto, Ferdinand Duruoha, confirmed that the strikes occurred in two local government areas — Tambuwal and Tangaza. According to him, journalists arrived in the state hours after the operation and immediately visited some of the affected locations.
“We rushed to some of the sites where the attack took place. The strikes happened in two local government areas in Sokoto State,” Duruoha said.
He disclosed that the strike in Tambuwal, specifically in Jabo, resulted in no casualties, noting that the location struck was a farm area. “From what we saw on ground, there were no casualties in Tambuwal. It was a strike on a farm, and only a large trench was created,” he added.
However, the situation appeared different in Tangaza, a location described as a known transit route linking Nigeria to the Niger Republic. Duruoha explained that intelligence reports and residents’ accounts influenced the choice of targets. “Severally, residents have confirmed seeing gunmen using those routes, which is why they were chosen,” he said.
While exact casualty figures from Tangaza could not be confirmed at the time of reporting, the correspondent stated that there were indications of casualties, with journalists yet to gain access to the area.
The operation was officially confirmed by Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, which acknowledged close collaboration with the United States. Duruoha noted that targets were carefully “acquired and locked in” before the strikes were executed.
Reacting to the development, US President Donald Trump issued a strong warning, saying, “This is just the beginning and it doesn’t stop; the strike will continue.”
