Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have foiled an early-morning infiltration attempt by terrorists operating from the Mandara Mountains into Bitta, neutralising several insurgents and disrupting their operations.
According to military sources, the terrorists were detected in the early hours of Thursday through advanced surveillance systems as they advanced toward the area. The troops exercised tactical restraint, allowing the assailants to move into an effective engagement range before launching coordinated defensive fire. The ensuing engagement led to the neutralisation of several terrorists, including a key fighter and his cameraman.
As surviving elements attempted to withdraw, the Air Component of OPHK carried out follow-on precision strikes, further decimating the retreating terrorists and cutting off their escape routes.
Subsequent exploitation of the area by ground troops resulted in the recovery of assorted weapons, equipment, and logistics. Items recovered included a camcorder, AK-47 rifles, bandoliers, handheld radios, 11 AK-47 magazines loaded with ammunition, seven mobile phones, PKT machine guns, belts of PKT and GPMG linked ammunition, as well as motorcycles and bicycles.
Troops also discovered multiple blood trails and shallow graves, suggesting additional casualties sustained by the terrorists during the ground engagement and air strikes.
Military authorities said troop morale remains high as operations continue to deny terrorists freedom of action and safeguard communities within the area of responsibility. OPHK reaffirmed its commitment to decisively defeat terrorist elements and restore lasting peace and stability across the North East region.
