Dr. Charles Omole has stated that the current government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu operates with at least five influential cabals that shape decision-making within the presidency.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Omole outlined the structure of these groups and their significant impact on governance.
According to Omole, the first cabal is the Chief of Staff’s group, led by Femi Gbajabiamila. This group includes key figures within Gbajabiamila’s inner circle, as well as influential actors like former Governor Nyesom Wike and the National Security Adviser (NSA). Omole described this cabal as one of the most powerful, noting that its members have considerable proximity to the president and influence over policy decisions.
“The current government has, from what I can see, at least five cabals. And the interesting thing is that one of the cabals is headed by the president himself based on my own analysis. Cabals are people who have proximity to power and who have the ability to influence policy and decisions. So in this current administration you have at least five groups all fighting for influence. Number one there is the chief of staff group, that is Femi Gbajabiamila. And by that I mean not just him, but people who are in his close circle, you add Wike to that, you add NSA to that,” Omole said.
The second cabal, Omole noted, is led by Seyi Tinubu and includes individuals he facilitated into government roles. This group, according to Omole, represents a network of allies and protégés loyal to the president’s son, further expanding the sphere of influence within the administration.
Omole identified the third cabal as led by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. He said the First Lady maintains her own team of trusted advisors, who have their own channels of influence and access to the president. This cabal, Omole argued, adds another layer of complexity to decision-making within the presidency.
The fourth cabal is made up of young aides and security personnel close to President Tinubu. Omole explained that this group, which includes the president’s principal private secretary, aide-de-camp, and chief security officer, plays a crucial role in controlling access to the president and shaping his immediate engagements. Their proximity to power gives them a subtle but significant influence on administrative priorities and the flow of information.
Finally, Omole said the fifth cabal is led by President Tinubu himself. This group comprises a small circle of older, trusted individuals whose counsel the president relies on most heavily. Omole stressed that this cabal is central to the administration’s core decision-making processes, and its influence often intersects with the other four groups.
“The second group is Seyi Tinubu’s pathway and also people he helped to put in government, so that forms another group. The third group is the First Lady, Oluremi, she has her own team,” Omole added, highlighting the overlapping influence these cabals have over governance.
