Sheikh Gumi Raises Alarm Over Possible Foreign Role in Attacks on Worshippers

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has said that foreign involvement should not be ruled out in recent terror attacks against worshippers in Nigeria.

Gumi said Nigeria is on the watch list of some Western countries, adding that secret operations may be carried out to create excuses for foreign intervention.

He shared this view while reacting to claims by Kaduna-based activist, Mahdi Shehu, who accused a former American envoy, Russell Hanks, of being involved in the 1995 bombing of a bookshop at Durbar Hotel in Kaduna during the military era of late Gen. Sani Abacha

According to Gumi, the former envoy has never openly denied the allegation till today.
The cleric warned that such actions, if true, are aimed at weakening Nigeria in order to take control of its sovereignty and natural wealth.

He added that similar tactics are now being shifted to other countries like Venezuela, saying foreign embassies are sometimes used to carry out secret missions without being detected.
