Mrs Regina Akume, lawmaker representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, has called on her husband, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume, to fully return to Christianity, reminding him that his achievements are rooted in his faith.
She made the appeal during a viral video recorded at the wedding reception of the SGF’s son on Sunday in Makurdi, Benue State. In a birthday prayer for her husband, who turned 72 over the weekend, Mrs Akume asked God to grant him long life, good health, wisdom, and clarity in thought and action, while emphasizing the central role of Christianity in his success.
“She should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that brought him this far. To abandon Christianity now and pursue anything else, he will not be successful,” she said, urging him to follow the path of Christ. “We came all the way to the office of the SGF not through any other means but through Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is still alive and still working, doing things for us,” she added.
Her comments have attracted significant attention amid reports of Senator Akume’s recent marriage to Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. The marriage was confirmed on Friday through a Facebook post by Abraham Double-D Dajoh of the Dajoh family, describing the union as “beautiful” and “uncommon,” and formally welcoming Queen Zaynab into their family in Mbakor, Benue State.
