Former Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Political Affairs, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is no longer strong and cannot be repaired.
Baba-Ahmed made this known during a recent interview on television while speaking about Nigeria’s political situation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the PDP has been weakening for a long time and is slowly fading away. He said the party destroyed itself through internal problems and leadership failure.
Baba-Ahmed explained that PDP leaders ruled Nigeria for many years and were not prepared for life in opposition after losing power. He added that instead of rebuilding the party, the leaders allowed it to divide further.
He noted that while the ruling APC is often blamed for Nigeria’s problems, the PDP also failed to play its role as a strong opposition. He said other parties like the ADC could still provide an alternative to the APC.
Speaking on President Tinubu, Baba-Ahmed said the President has his own mistakes, especially in gathering too many politicians around him, but stressed that the PDP’s biggest problem came from within.
He recalled that the PDP has lost large groups of its members to other parties in the past, especially in 2015, and said the same thing is happening again.
