Owo Church Attack Trial: Prosecution Witness Recounts Hiding in Restroom as Gunmen Struck

A chilling testimony emerged today at the Federal High Court in Abuja as the Federal Government opened its case against suspects linked to the horrific mass shooting and bomb attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.

The first prosecution witness — identified only by the pseudo name SSA for security reasons — told Justice Emeka Nwite that he hid inside the church restroom to escape the deadly attack.

According to SSA, chaos erupted as worshippers ran for safety while explosions and gunshots echoed through the building. He managed to take cover in the restroom, where he stayed until the attackers fled.

The witness, who resides in Akure, is the first to testify in the Federal Government’s effort to secure justice for the victims of one of Nigeria’s deadliest church attacks in recent years.

The trial continues as the court seeks to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy and hold those responsible to account.
