The Blueprint Administration of the Students’ Union at the University of Medical Sciences UNIMED Ondo has marked its first 100 days in office with the release of a comprehensive report detailing major achievements in student governance, welfare, inclusivity, and campus development.
Led by Kalejaiye Abolaji John, the second Students’ Union President in the history of the University of Medical Sciences, the administration has within a short period demonstrated a firm commitment to institutional reform, transparency, academic excellence, and student centered leadership.
Notably, Kalejaiye Abolaji John is the first Students’ Union President to emerge from the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Department of Medicine and Surgery 500 Level, a development widely regarded as a historic milestone in the university’s student leadership landscape.
Strengthening Institutional Structures and Transparency
One of the earliest priorities of the Blueprint Administration was restoring order and accountability across campus organizations. The Union successfully established functional administrative structures for all student associations, interest groups, and religious bodies on campus.
In a landmark move to promote accountability, the administration enforced the exclusive use of official association bank accounts, effectively ending the use of personal accounts for organizational funds and strengthening financial transparency across student bodies.
Improving Student Welfare and Mobility
Recognizing transportation as a critical student concern, the Blueprint Administration initiated and supported the campus shuttle transport service, significantly improving student mobility and daily convenience.
To further ease economic pressures, the administration organized a Free Transportation Day, offering temporary financial relief and reducing commuting challenges for students across campus.
Academic Excellence, Support, and Student Integration
Academic success remains a central pillar of the Blueprint Administration. From day one, the Union commenced free tutorial classes for 100 level students, designed to provide academic support, close learning gaps, and strengthen foundational knowledge.
These tutorials which will run consistently throughout the administration’s tenure are aimed at ensuring that UNIMED records its highest levels of academic performance and measurable improvement among 100 level students.
The administration also successfully hosted Freshers Connect, a flagship orientation mentorship and integration program that eased the transition of newly admitted students into university life.
In addition, the Union introduced the Academic Award of Excellence for Freshmen, recognizing the best performing 100 level student and reinforcing a culture of academic distinction from the onset of university education.
Health, Mental Well Being, and Advocacy
Demonstrating a people centered approach to governance, the Blueprint Administration actively advocated for improved mental health support, leading to collaboration with the University Counseling Unit to enhance access to counseling and psychological services.
The administration further organized an Asthma Awareness and Support Drive, during which free inhalers were distributed alongside targeted advocacy for students living with asthma.
Sustained advocacy for improved health center services and expanded student health insurance coverage also formed a core part of the administration’s welfare agenda.
Campus Engagement, Social Life, and Inclusion
The Union conducted a B•O•D Campus Tour, culminating in a campus wide social event attended by over 600 students, fostering unity and engagement across faculties.
In a historic milestone, the Blueprint Administration delivered MEDRAVE 2025, the largest social event in UNIMED’s history featuring popular Nigerian music star Bad Boy Timz, significantly boosting campus morale and enriching student social life.
Communication, Connectivity, and Gender Inclusion
To improve information flow across campus, the administration established student information notice boards, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of important information.
The Blueprint Administration also sustained advocacy for campus wide Wi Fi access, with efforts yielding positive and measurable progress.
In a major stride toward inclusion, the administration successfully introduced female football into the Vice Chancellor’s Cup, providing full institutional support and expanding sporting opportunities for female students.
Leadership Reflections
Speaking on the milestone, the Students’ Union President Kalejaiye Abolaji John commended members of the Union *Central executive council* for their dedication and teamwork, noting that their collective efforts have been instrumental to the administration’s early successes.
According to him, the executives have remained proactive intentional and united, driven by a shared vision of not merely building a tenure but establishing a lasting legacy under the Blueprint Administration.
