Oil Exploration: UIY Insists Only Olu of Warri Can Negotiate With Oil Firms

The Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths (UIY) has said only the Olu of Warri has the mandate to negotiate with oil companies operating in Warri Kingdom.

The group warned firms, including Chevron, against engaging any other individuals or groups, insisting that all discussions must be routed through the monarch.

In a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Joseph Okotie, UIY accused Chevron of years of marginalisation despite operating facilities such as Abiteye, Olero, Otu Nana and Dibi flow stations within Warri Kingdom.

The youths listed their demands to include fair employment for Itsekiri youths, transparent contract awards to host communities, empowerment and training programmes, and full open camp access.

UIY gave Chevron a 21-day ultimatum to commence negotiations through the Olu of Warri or face a shutdown of its operations across Warri Kingdom.
