Obienyem Urges Countries to Reject Reno Omokri as Nigeria’s Ambassador

Barr. Valentine Obienyem, a Nigerian public commentator and adviser to Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced that he will write to any country where Reno Omokri is posted as Nigeria’s ambassador, urging them to reject his nomination.

In a draft letter prepared for the host countries’ President and Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Obienyem cited “grave concerns” about Omokri’s past actions, claiming he is unsuitable to represent Nigeria diplomatically.
Key reasons include:

•Public criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before and during the 2023 elections, including mocking his health and questioning his fitness for office.

•Allegations about Tinubu’s academic records and corruption, shared publicly without disclaimers.

•Conduct showing instability, shifting loyalties, and self-interest rather than national interest.

Obienyem stressed that his objection is about public responsibility and diplomatic integrity, not personal matters. He also said he’s ready to provide videos, social media posts, and other evidence of Omokri’s past statements if required.

He concluded that accepting Omokri as ambassador could harm Nigeria’s bilateral relations.
