A major political shake-up is unfolding within the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, particularly in Kano State. After failed attempts to woo NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso into the APC, sources say the ruling party shifted focus to the Kano State Governor.
Multiple insiders at Government House, Kano, confirm the governor has shown openness to discussions with the APC amid concerns about his political future.
According to the sources, APC leaders intensified pressure with political assurances, presenting defection as a path to re-election and continued relevance.
The governor is also said to have urged Kwankwaso to consider a joint move, arguing that alignment with the ruling party may be necessary ahead of future elections.
However, the Kwankwasiyya movement is now split.
Some lawmakers are reportedly ready to follow the governor, while core loyalists insist they will remain with Kwankwaso and the NNPP unless he decides otherwise.
The unfolding developments highlight deepening internal divisions and signal possible realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
