An Ekiti man reportedly lost his life during the BAO WALK (10.0), a tragic incident which occurred in the Odo Oja/Garage area of Ikere Ekiti yesterday morning.
Initial reports suggest that some people believe the man fell from the truck used for the rally, while others claim he was trying to enter a moving vehicle when the incident happened.
This event has sparked significant concern among residents and citizens of Ekiti State, with many calling for a swift investigation into the matter.
A viral video showed the deceased lying on the ground, bleeding from his head, where he had sustained an injury.
In an official statement released yesterday, the event organizer, Hon. Bimbo Daramola, refuted the initial claims that the man fell from the truck.
He stated that the incident occurred at the end of the rally when the man reportedly hit his head on the ground, leading to his death.
Hon. Daramola also confirmed, based on eyewitness accounts, that the incident was not caused by a scuffle, stampede, or collapse during the walk, asserting that the unfortunate accident took place after the event had concluded.
“On behalf of myself and the entire organizing committee and crew of this health advocacy initiative, we express our deepest regrets and heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. We pray that God grants them the strength to cope with this sudden and irreparable loss,” he stated.
The BAO Walk is a monthly two-hour health and wellness awareness program that began in February 2025, and yesterday's event marked the final walk of the year, following successful events in nine Local Government Areas of Ekiti State.
