Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami — son of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) — was reportedly rushed to the Kuje Prison clinic after collapsing in custody on Tuesday.
Sources say he suddenly fell ill and was placed under medical observation at the correctional facility’s clinic.
This incident comes in the middle of an ongoing high-profile fräud case involving him, his father, and Malami’s fourth wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe.
⚖️ Court Drama Before The Illness
Earlier that same day, the EFCC arraigned the trio before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
They are facing 16 counts linked to:
conspiracy
money laundering
concealment of funds
alleged fräud running into ₦8.7 billion
All defendants pleaded not guilty.
🏢 Alleged Laundered Funds & Front Companies
According to EFCC filings, the Malami family allegedly used several companies — including:
Metropolitan Auto Tech Ltd
Meethaq Hotels Ltd
— to move and conceal suspicious funds.
Highlights of the allegations include:
👉 Over ₦1 billion reportedly moved through a Sterling Bank account
👉 ₦600 million allegedly used as collateral for a hotel loan
👉 Property acquisitions in Abuja & Kano allegedly disguised through BDC operators
Witnesses listed in the case include EFCC investigators, bankers, and Bureau-De-Change operators.
🏚️ VIP Custody Status
Despite the charges, Malami and co-defendants are reportedly being housed in a VIP cell inside Kuje Prison, said to have been refurbished by the late Abba Kyari.
They continue to maintain their innocence.
