A chilling discovery has left the Imo State Government House in shock after Inspector Ekele Peter, a police officer from Ofante, Kogi State, was found dead inside his room on Friday. Sources told SaharaReporters that Inspector Peter likely died on Tuesday, but his body remained undiscovered for days.
According to a video obtained by journalists, it shows the officer lying unclothed on the floor, while colleagues who found him hurriedly covered his body with a wrapper. The circumstances of his death remain unclear, and the Nigeria Police Force has yet to issue an official statement.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about internal welfare and oversight within the police. This comes shortly after another alarming development in Niger State, where officers assigned to an internal arms audit were detained following the death of DSP Abdullahi Isah, who allegedly took his own life during a probe into illegal ammunition dealings.
During the audit in Minna, authorities reportedly discovered discrepancies involving 13 AK-47 rifles and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition. The officers involved in the audit were subsequently arrested for negligence, and investigations are ongoing.
With two unexplained police deaths in separate states in recent days, questions are mounting over accountability and the internal monitoring of officers within the Nigeria Police Force.
