Gov. Oborevwori Signs Delta State Colleges of Education Law, 2025

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has signed the Delta State Colleges of Education Law, 2025 into law.

The signing took place today at Government House, Asaba, shortly after the governor approved the ₦1.729 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill, alongside other bills.

The new law, earlier passed by the Delta State House of Assembly, gives Colleges of Education in the state including Warri and Mosogar, a dual mandate. This means they can now offer both NCE and degree programmes without affiliating with any university.

The move is aimed at strengthening teacher education and supports Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda for education reform and development.

Key Highlights of the Law:
• Colleges can now award NCE and degree certificates
• Smoother transition from NCE to degree, with eligibility for NYSC
• Increased access to quality teacher education
• Supports the MORE Agenda: Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace & Security

With this development, Delta State now joins other states in Nigeria whose Colleges of Education can award both NCE and degree qualifications.
