Ghanaian security agencies have arrested 141 Nigerians for alleged involvement in cyber-related crimes.
According to Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel George, the arrests followed an early morning operation carried out by the Cyber Security Authority, alongside the Ghana Police, National Security, and Immigration Service.
The operation took place in Tabora and Lashibi areas of Ghana. About 100 suspects were arrested in Tabora, while 41 others were picked up in Lashibi.
Authorities said the suspects are believed to be involved in crimes such as mobile money fraud, romance scams, sextortion, business email scams, and wire fraud.
Security operatives also recovered 38 laptops and 150 mobile phones suspected to have been used for the crimes. A Ghanaian landlord who reportedly housed about 100 of the suspects was also arrested.
Ghanaian authorities warned landlords to be careful about who they rent their houses to and stressed that investigations are ongoing.
Anyone found guilty will face the law.
They also urged the public to report suspicious online activities, saying Ghana welcomes lawful visitors but will not tolerate cybercrime.
