FG confirms U.S.-backed Air strikes on Terrorists In North-West, warns more Firepower ahead

The Federal Government has confirmed that precision air strikes carried out through coordinated security cooperation with international partners — including the United States — have successfully hit terrorist targets in Nigeria’s North-West region.

The confirmation follows an earlier social media post by U.S. President Donald Trump, which sparked widespread reactions both locally and internationally.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa said Nigeria remains deeply engaged in structured security collaboration with global partners to confront the growing threat of terrorism and violent extremism.

“Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, in addressing the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism,” the statement said.
“This has led to precision hits on terrorist targets in Nigeria by air strikes in the North West.”

The Ministry stressed that the joint operations involve intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and technical support, all carried out in strict compliance with international law and with full respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.

It further declared that terrorism in any form — whether targeting Christians, Muslims, or any other community — is unacceptable, describing such violence as a direct attack on Nigeria’s core values and global peace.

The government reiterated its zero tolerance for attacks on civilians, noting that all counter-terrorism operations are designed to prioritise civilian protection, national unity, and the dignity and rights of citizens.

According to the statement, Nigeria will continue working closely with its partners to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their funding and logistics, curb cross-border threats, and strengthen the country’s own security and intelligence capacity.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, commenting on the strikes and their timing, issued a stark warning — more air strikes are coming.

The message is clear: the war on terror in Nigeria’s North-West is intensifying, and the gloves are off.
