Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been appointed the main assistant captain of the Nigerian national team ahead of the 2025 AFCON.
Osimhen will support the new team captain, Wilfred Ndidi, and has also been chosen as the new penalty taker for the Super Eagles.
This leadership change follows the retirement of former captain William Troost-Ekong, who also handled penalty duties before stepping down.
Ndidi was officially named captain last week. Senior players Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon remain key figures in the team, with Iwobi currently the most capped player.
Osimhen’s selection is said to be based on his strong commitment and dedication to the national team.
