A political analyst, Inko Tariah, has asserted that the defection of 16 Rivers State House of Assembly lawmakers from the PDP to the APC is part of a broader plan to undermine Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s chances of securing a second term. He argued that the lawmakers are laying the groundwork to truncate the governor’s reelection bid ahead of the 2027 polls.
Speaking during an interview with Arise News, Tariah said the lawmakers’ recent decision reveals a deliberate strategy to frustrate Fubara’s administration. He pointed out that the refusal of the lawmakers to move to the newly completed permanent legislative building, despite the governor’s approval and completion of the building, is an intentional act aimed at stifling the governor’s efforts.
He questioned why legislators would resist relocating to a fully furnished, more conducive space unless driven by political hostility.
Tariah further asserted that the actions of the lawmakers reflect longstanding enmity toward the governor. He pointed out that elections will begin soon, and the legislators are positioning themselves to disrupt Fubara’s re-election.
He highlighted the governor’s performance despite facing intense pressure in his first two years. He said many residents and civil servants are satisfied with Governor Fubara’s achievements, describing the support he enjoys as organic.
In his words, “Don’t forget the elections are fast approaching. 2027 is just around the corner. Next year, of course, the elections and the electoral activities will commence, probably towards the end of the year.”
“But they are preparing the grounds to ensure that the re-election of Sim Fubara is truncated. That is just the whole essence of it.”
