Residents of Ese community in Akoko North West local government area of Ondo State has taken a bold stand, storming the streets in a peaceful protest to decry the decades-long neglect of their major access roads. The early morning demonstration drew men, women, youths, and the elderly, all united by a common plea for urgent government intervention.
The protesters described the roads linking Ese to neighboring towns, Ese-Ogbagi, Ese-Irun, and Ese-Afin, as “death traps,” lamenting that the deteriorating condition has crippled economic activities and made movement nearly impossible, especially during the rainy season.
Calling on Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa Orimisan, their representative, and other Political leaders to “have mercy” on the community and ensure the immediate rehabilitation of the roads, which they said have become symbols of government neglect and abandonment.
“Our businesses are dying, farmers can’t transport their produce, and even motorcyclists avoid our routes,” one protester lamented. “We are not asking for too much, we just want to be connected again.”
Community leaders stressed that the protest was non-political, emphasizing that it stemmed purely from frustration and the urgent need for survival.
The peaceful demonstration ended without incident, but residents vowed to continue their agitation until concrete action is taken to restore their roads and revive the local economy.
