Coup: Nigerian Army redeploys 56 major generals and 11 brigadier generals in a major shake-up

The Nigerian Army has redeployed 60 senior officers, including 56 Major Generals and 11 Brigadier Generals, in a major leadership restructuring across various formations and commands.

This redeployment is contained in a memo dated October 30, signed by E.L. Okoro, the Military Secretary (Army), and obtained by TheCable.
The affected senior officers have been directed to assume their new positions effective November 3, 2025.

However, only four of the Major Generals were retained in their current locations but given new appointments. They are: P.A.O. Okoye, Y. Yahaya, I. Otu, and S. Nuhu.

According to the memo:

> “All formation and unit commanders whose officers are affected by this posting are to ensure full implementation of this directive.
Officers must assume their new appointments on the effective dates indicated, and the receiving formations/units must notify the ADQ Department of the Military Secretariat of the date the officer assumed duty.”

It further stated that:

> “Commanders who fail to release posted officers to assume duty on the stipulated date will face disciplinary action. Similarly, any officer who fails to report at his new post as directed will also be sanctioned.”

This development comes a week after President Bola Tinubu appointed new service chiefs.

Major General Waidi Shaibu replaced Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who was elevated to the position of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke became the new Chief of Air Staff (CAS), while Rear Admiral Idi Abbas was appointed Chief of Naval Staff (CNS).

These changes come weeks after rumours of a coup plot, which were strongly denied by the military authorities.
