The House of Reps has decided to dig deep into how $18 billion was reportedly spent to “fix” Nigeria’s refineries that still aren’t working. 😩
Lagos lawmaker, Hon. Sesi Whingan, raised the motion, noting that the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries have remained idle for over two decades — despite all the talk about rehabilitation.
He even referenced Aliko Dangote’s claim that $18bn has already gone into the repairs, yet there’s no real evidence of progress.
Whingan called the situation a “betrayal of public trust” and urged for a full probe to uncover where the money really went.
With the fuel subsidy gone, he said working refineries are more important than ever to ease the current hardship Nigerians face.
