Police Rescue One-Week-Old Baby Sold for N1.7 Million in Anambra


Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have rescued a one-week-old baby girl who was allegedly sold for ₦1.7 million in Ifite-Awkuzu, Oyi LGA.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that the baby’s mother, who was reportedly paid ₦350,000, and three other women involved in the illegal sale have been arrested.

The suspects were identified as:
👩‍🦳 Elizabeth Okafor (62)
👩 Esther Nweke (48)
👩 Ngozi Maanfa (45)

According to police, the operation followed credible intelligence that led officers to a facility known as Mama Maternity, where the baby was found.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered that the case be transferred to the Gender Unit of the State CID, Awka, for further investigation.
