What is neuro linguistic programming (Nlp), Reframing
Reframing is the process of changing your perception of a situation in such a way that you see it positively rather than seeing it negatively.
It was called reframing because just like a frame of a picture helps you in seeing the picture the frame you put around the situation lets you see the situation in a different way. The following are examples of reframing which will make the concept more clear.
NLP reframing examples
If you had some work to do on your computer and in the same time you wanted to read a part of a book you bought then while working on your computer an electrical outage happened, instead of cursing or instead of becoming stressed you can just view this situation as a good opportunity to read the book until the power is back.
Religious people who experience a bad life event can change the frame by believing that God wants to bring them the best even if they can't understand the reason behind their current problem.
If you have lots of work to do then you could consider this a chance to train on using time management skills
A rainy day could be viewed as a good chance to spend some more time with your family
its not the situation that makes you feel bad,its the frame.
As you can see its not the situation that makes you feel bad or irritated but its the frame that you put around it.
Using reframing does not involve being idealistic nor a perfectionist but instead reframing is a healthy way of looking at bad events so that you can take advantage of them.
Positive thinking is all about learning how to see the positives instead of the negatives.
Some people move away from logic just to think positively and this leads to self deception. Reframing is not a technique that is there to let you twist reality but its there to help you find the opportunities that you can take instead of focusing on the difficulties.
In other words, there is a big difference between positive thinkers who twist reality and positive thinkers who assess their options rationally in order to find out the best ones.
In many cases people become irrational with their negative thoughts and start assuming scenarios that will never happen. The role of positive thinking in this case is to let those people see reality correctly instead of seeing a distorted version for it in their minds.
