In a powerful gesture of reconciliation, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) has invited Senate President Godswill Akpabio and fellow lawmakers to the inauguration of constituency projects in Kogi State — just weeks after returning from a six-month suspension.
The invitation was formally conveyed in a letter read by Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session.
“To mark my second anniversary as a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I extend a warm invitation to distinguished colleagues to join me in commissioning projects in Kogi State,” the letter stated.
The event is scheduled for Sunday in Ihima, Okene Local Government Area, with the meeting point set at the senator’s residence. Lawmakers traveling by air are advised to land at the Obajana airstrip before proceeding by road.
Responding to the letter, Akpabio said: “Congratulations in advance.”
The move signals a decisive end to the bitter rift that erupted on March 6, 2025, when Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended following a dramatic protest over the reallocation of her seat. Her walkout and sharp criticism of Akpabio’s leadership style — accusing him of running the Senate with a “dictatorial hand” — had sparked nationwide debate.
The Senate, in turn, cited gross misconduct and breach of parliamentary decorum.
Now, with her suspension lifted, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s invitation represents not just political courtesy — but a strategic bridge-building effort aimed at restoring harmony in the upper chamber.
As Ihima prepares to host the Senate leadership, all eyes will be on whether Akpabio and other senators accept the invitation — and what it means for unity in the 10th Senate.
