Fresh revelations have emerged in the ongoing military investigation into the alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, with reports indicating that ₦45 billion was traced from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) accounts to some politically exposed persons and detained soldiers allegedly linked to the conspiracy.
According to multiple sources, the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) uncovered the suspicious financial trail while probing the alleged funding of subversive activities connected to the supposed coup.
Earlier this month, Sahara Reporters claimed that 16 Nigerian Army officers were detained over an alleged plot to overthrow the government, reportedly linked to the cancellation of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.
However, the military swiftly denied the report. In a statement, the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, clarified that the detained officers were being investigated for professional misconduct, not for planning a coup.
🚨 On Tuesday, fresh reports indicated that Nigerian Army personnel raided the Abuja residence of former Minister of State for Petroleum and ex-Bayelsa Governor, Timipre Sylva, as part of the ongoing investigation.
Following the raid, DIA investigators questioned top NDDC officials to determine the source, movement, and beneficiaries of the ₦45bn linked to the detained soldiers.
The revelation has reportedly sparked tension at the NDDC headquarters, as investigators intensify efforts to trace the alleged flow of funds and possible political connections behind it.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has once again dismissed claims of a coup plot, describing them as “false, misleading, and malicious.”
While the details of the interrogation remain undisclosed, sources say the DIA is closely examining a series of high-value transactions conducted in recent months that may have ties to politically exposed individuals.
