The Ogun State Government has summoned the embattled Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Alhaji Wasiu Adewale, and the councillors who suspended him, to an emergency meeting on Friday.
The invitation followed the council’s three-month suspension of the chairman over alleged financial misconduct, insubordination, and disregard for authority.
Confirming the development, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, said the commissioner had summoned a meeting for Friday to review the matter and hear from both parties.
The Ota Local Government Legislative Council suspended Chairman Sheriff Adewale for three months over alleged financial misconduct, insubordination, and negligence.
During Thursday’s plenary, Councillor Musediq Asalu (Ota Ward 2) accused Adewale of repeatedly refusing to present the council’s income and expenditure records despite several formal requests, in violation of the Ogun State Local Government Law.
Asalu also alleged that the chairman ignored council resolutions and invitations, describing his conduct as “gross disrespect” to the legislature.
The council directed Adewale to hand over government property to the Head of Local Government Administration and barred him from official duties during the suspension. Vice Chairman Abosede Balogun was named acting chairman.
Adewale, however, dismissed the suspension as “fake” when contacted by PUNCH Online.
