Delta-born investigative journalist, Tega Oghenedoro, popularly known as Fejiro Oliver, has been remanded in Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Facility following his arraignment before the Federal High Court, Asaba, on Thursday.
Oliver, who appeared in court for the first time since his arrest, had his bail application adjourned to October 16, 2025.
The journalist was arrested in Abuja nearly three weeks ago and reportedly flown to Asaba on a chartered aircraft, allegedly on the orders of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Senator Ede Dafinone over claims of defamation and cyberstalking.
According to reports, Oliver has been held incommunicado since his arrest, which followed a petition purportedly filed by Freeborn Eghagha, an aide to Governor Oborevwori, accusing him of publishing defamatory materials and referring to the governor as “Governor Amuneke” in a series of online posts.
Court documents obtained reveal that the Nigeria Police Force, in the charge filed before the Asaba Judicial Division, alleged that Fejiro Oliver, “between the months of August and July, 2025, in Asaba within the Asaba Judicial Division, made publications on his Facebook account, Fejiro Oliver, cyberstalking His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State.”
The publication reportedly included statements claiming that “the Governor travelled to Brazil secretly,” “awarded contracts worth billions to his boys for election rigging,” and “sent officials to China spending millions of dollars to inspect CNG buses instead of attracting investors.”
He was further accused of describing the governor as “a sleeping governor who rigged election,” an allegation the police say was intended to damage the governor’s reputation, contrary to Section 24 (2)(c)(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended).
In a separate charge, Oliver was also accused of cyberstalking Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, between May and July 2025, with alleged derogatory descriptions such as “sleeping senator,” “betraying ingrate,” “Dodo Senator,” and “POS Senator.”
The police claim these publications were aimed at tarnishing the senator’s image, an offence punishable under the same Cybercrime Act.
Earlier this month, Ovibel Media reported that Oliver had filed a ₦1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit at the Federal High Court, Asaba, against Governor Oborevwori, Senator Dafinone, and Stella Okotete, Executive Director of Business Development at NEXIM Bank.
The suit also lists the Inspector General of Police, Delta State Commissioner of Police, DCP Adegoke Alani, and CSP Solomon Nwokolo as respondents, alleging violations of his fundamental rights to liberty, dignity, privacy, and freedom of movement.
Fejiro Oliver is expected to remain in custody at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre pending the determination of his bail application on October 16, 2025.
