Armed Robbery Rocks Methodist Church in South Africa

A wave of shock and fear has hit Bryanston, Johannesburg, after 12 armed men stormed the Bryanston Methodist Church late Monday night, October 27, stealing an undisclosed amount of cash from the church vault.

According to church officials, the robbers arrived around 10 p.m. in three vehicles, held security guards at gunpoint, and disabled the alarm system before using heavy tools like jackhammers and angle grinders to break into the vault. The attack lasted over three hours before the suspects fled.

Thankfully, no one was injured, and the church has expressed gratitude for divine protection over those present. They’ve urged members to switch to electronic giving methods (EFT, SnapScan, or card payments) to reduce cash handling on-site.

This incident adds to a disturbing rise in church robberies across South Africa, with similar armed attacks reported in Mpumalanga and Durban in recent months. Authorities are investigating and urging religious institutions to remain on high alert.
