All Enugu Reps Dump PDP, Labour Party for APC

In a major political shift, all eight members of the Enugu State caucus in the House of Representatives have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection was formally announced on Thursday by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who read the lawmakers’ resignation letters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) during plenary. The event was witnessed by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah.

The lawmakers cited unresolved internal crises and leadership struggles within their former parties as reasons for their decision, describing the situation as a threat to the unity and effectiveness of the opposition.

After the 2023 general elections, the Labour Party held seven of Enugu’s eight House seats, while the PDP controlled one. With Thursday’s mass defection, the APC now holds all eight seats, giving it full control of the Enugu caucus in the House of Representatives.
