Agent Allegedly Slaps BOUESTI Student Amid Rent Increase Dispute

.
According to reports, a protest broke out yesterday evening on a street along BOUESTI school area after an agent was accused of slapping a first-year student, Akinbile Kamarudeen.

It was reported that the tenant requested additional time to vacate the premises or asked the agent to provide the landlord’s contact information, following a rent increase for a single room from ₦80,000 to ₦140,000.

When the student questioned the abrupt demand for immediate payment or eviction, the agent reportedly became aggressive, slapping and threatening the student, which incited unrest and protests among fellow students.

The Dean of Student Affairs and the current Student Union Government President promptly intervened and were observed addressing the agitated student body.

The Dean assured students that the matter would be addressed quickly and that appropriate measures would be taken. It was also reported that the agent in question was arrested immediately.

Students have reiterated their appeal to the Ekiti State Government and the Ekiti State House of Assembly to take urgent action in safeguarding students in Ikere from the misconduct of certain agents and landlords.

The Government of Ekiti State, Nigeria, and the Ekiti State House of Assembly are urged to address this issue before it escalates further.
