Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other government agencies to properly check and confirm the certificates of all political candidates before the 2027 general elections.
Obi made this known in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. He said the truth and honesty of leaders are very important to the growth of Nigeria’s democracy.
He praised the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, for resigning after issues came up about his academic records, describing his action as “a decent and honourable step.”
Obi also mentioned that former Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, resigned in the same way during President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
According to him, issues about fake or questionable certificates should never be taken lightly because they are serious crimes.
