Adeleke empowers Osun women with organic farming training, N25m


No fewer than 500 women across Osun State have been empowered with sun of 50,000 each as start-up for their farming ventures.

The funds were dolled out to the beneficiaries after they were trained on organic compound farming in vegetables, cocoyam, snail rearing and poultry farming.

Speaking at the end of a training programme organised by Springtime Development Foundation for the women in Ede on Thursday, the state governor, Ademola Adeleke disclosed that his administration would not relent in empowering women in the state.

Adeleke, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare, Ayobola Fadeyi-Awolowo, said since inception, the administration has not hidden its passion for women development.

The governor described women as nation builders, insisting that investment in the folk is an investment in the prosperity of the country.

He said, “Our government, since coming on board, has made as part of our agenda, women empowerment and has not faltered. Today’s distribution of N50,000 to each of the 500 participants is an attestation of our government commitment to our pledge.

Earlier, the Chairman of Springtime Development Foundation, Deji Adeleke, who was represented by his deputy, Banji Adesuyi, disclosed that the empowerment programme was packaged under the Veronica Adeleke Women Empowerment targeted at making women economically independent.

“This women empowerment scheme is the first of its kind in the state and participants were drawn from the 30 Local Government Councils and the Area office. In all, we have 500 participants for this phase after which other women groups would be given the opportunity. Our target is 1, 000 women and we will definitely reach the number.

“Some of the trainings the women went through include organic compound farming in vegetable, cocoyam, snail breeding and poultry farming”, he added.
