The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan held its 9th Installation Ceremony on July 20, 2025, at the La Sien Pavilion, 22 Forces Avenue Old GRA, Port Harcourt. The event marked the end of tenure and handover ceremony from RTN Yvonne Sorgwe Iwo-Brown to RTN Iwo Edward Pepple PHF+3.
Welcome Address and Achievements
The outgoing president, RTN Yvonne Sorgwe Iwo-Brown, delivered a warm welcome address, reflecting on the achievements of the past year under her leadership expressing gratitude to members. She emphasized unity and collaboration as key drivers of success in service projects.
Awards and Recognition
During the ceremony, awards of recognition and celebration of outstanding contributions to the club's success were presented to respective teams and individuals. Notably RTN Ivy Davies Etokakpan, the Editor-in-Chief of Eve Afrique News, Engr. Sir Adokiye Tombomieye for his service to the community, Wumsy Cares Foundation and Bere-Mont Nigeria Limited, owners of Charles Dale Memorial International School and Bereton School, were honored for their contributions.
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan is a historic club with significant achievements. It's the first club chartered in Rotary District 9141 and the first all-service-oriented CEO Club in Africa. During the ceremony, RTN Iwo, the 9th president of the club, inducted her board of directors and unveiled her community service projects for the 2025/2026 Rotary Year.
RTN Iwo Edward-Pepple's Background
Rotarian Iwo Edward-Pepple is a dedicated and creative individual with a passion for service. Born in Port Harcourt to the family of Chief (Engr.) and Alabota B.J. Samuel-Horsfall, JP, of Buguma in Asari Toru Local Government Area, Rivers State, she has remained connected to her roots while building an impressive career.
Rtn. Iwo is a prolific writer with 25 published books. Her love for storytelling empowers children and young people. She recently launched two new books ( Everyday Heroes and Leas with 4-Ways Test) that bring the philosophy of Rotary's 4-way test to life.
Leadership Roles
As a Systems Analyst and Solution Developer, RTN Iwo has lent expertise to numerous organizations. She chairs several charity boards and leads two thriving companies: 2WJ Global Services Nigeria Ltd and Equinox Global Resources.
Installation and Future Projects
The ceremony included the formal installation of RTN Iwo Edward-Pepple PHF+3 as the new president. She pledged to serve with integrity, transparency, and vision, noting that her vision is to serve, build strength, and chart bold new paths to deepen the impact, strengthen the identity of the club, and expand their reach.
Future Initiatives
RTN Iwo's team will advance the Stitches to Ability initiative, empowering children with disabilities through skills, dignity, and love. They'll also invest in health awareness campaigns, especially in HIV prevention and maternal care, promote literacy, peacebuilding, youth development, and environmental protection.
Fundraising Luncheon
The event included a fundraising luncheon, where guests were treated to a delicious array of dishes. The funds raised will go directly towards various community projects, including educational initiatives for children living with disabilities, healthcare programs, and environmental conservation efforts.
