The Lagos State Government has awarded a cash prize of ₦10 million to the best graduating student of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2023/2024 academic session, reaffirming its strong commitment to academic excellence and merit-based rewards.
Miss Isioma Sybil Nwosu, a first-class graduate from the Department of Biochemistry, emerged as the overall best graduating student. The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule, presented the award on behalf of the government at his office in the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
During the presentation, the Commissioner reiterated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to promoting scholarship, research, and academic integrity within state-owned tertiary institutions. He noted that the reward reflects the administration’s inclusive policy of recognising and supporting excellence without discrimination based on origin or background.
“Lagos is home to all,” Hon. Sule stated. “We celebrate brilliance wherever it is found, and our goal is to ensure that our graduates are globally competitive and locally impactful.”
He encouraged Miss Nwosu to continue on her path of academic distinction and to serve as a beacon of excellence and inspiration for other students in Lagos State institutions.
Responding with gratitude, Miss Nwosu, who hails from Aniocha in Delta State, expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Government for the honour. Accompanied by her mother, she pledged to use the funds judiciously in pursuit of further academic advancement.
“I am deeply honoured and grateful,” she said. “This generous gesture proves that Lagos is a state where merit is truly rewarded. I intend to invest this award in furthering my education and making an impact.”
She also encouraged fellow students to remain focused and to reciprocate the state government’s investment by striving for academic excellence.
