In 1978, Drum magazine featured a remarkable and controversial story about Nigerian identical twins, Kehinde and Taiwo Ogundipe, who were married to the same woman and even fathered a child with her.
Their wife, Patricia, had already given birth to a baby boy named Noah at the time the story was published.
Explaining their decision, the twins said:
“We chose to marry one wife to show the world—especially Nigerians—that just as one man can marry multiple wives, twins can also express their unity by sharing everything in common. God created us to be one in all things.”
Their unconventional marriage was deeply rooted in their cultural belief that twins are spiritually bound and destined to journey through life as one.
