Over the weekend, fear gripped Lumma Sanke in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State when suspected members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched a deadly assault on a service outpost belonging to the Nigeria Immigration Service.
On Saturday evening, along the Babanna-Wawa road, a tragic incident resulted in the death of an Immigration Superintendent known as Suleiman. Reports indicate that terrorists ambushed and killed him before setting both his body and his carbine weapon on fire.
According to local sources, a large number of attackers launched an overwhelming and brutal assault on the outpost, sending shockwaves throughout the community.
In a connected incident, the same terrorist group attacked a mobile police checkpoint at Luma Ba’are in the vicinity. Although details are still emerging, authorities have not yet confirmed whether there were any casualties from this second attack.
During the attack, patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and private cars owned by police officers were reportedly set on fire.
Residents informed our correspondent that the attacks on both locations occurred simultaneously within a brief time frame.
Daily Trust reported that another immigration officer, identified as Ahmed, has been missing since the incident.
The attack was confirmed to Daily Trust by insiders within the Immigration Service.
According to one of the sources, "The outpost is named Luma Immigration Service Patrol Outpost and it can be found on Babanna-Wawa road."
During the terrorist attack, Officer Suleiman tragically lost his life and his body was set on fire. Another officer, Ahmed, remains missing with no information available about him at this time.
Another source stated, "The attacks occurred at the Nigeria Immigration Outpost in Luma-Sanke and the Mopol Checkpoint in Luma-Ba’are, Borgu, Niger State. This situation is becoming intolerable as terrorists are dominating the area."
When reached, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, assured that an investigation and response would be forthcoming. However, by the time this report was filed, he had not yet followed up on this promise.
