A medical student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Daniel Olusade, has been selected to represent Nigeria at the prestigious 74th General Assembly of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) scheduled to hold in Ioannina, Greece, from August 1st to 7th, 2025.
Daniel, who is the immediate past president of the FUTA Medical Students’ Association (FUTAMSA) and currently the Presidential Chief of Staff, Nigeria Medical Students Association was nominated by the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA) to be part of the official Nigerian delegation to the high-level global meeting.
In a formal invitation, the IFMSA General Secretariat, based in Amsterdam, commended the contribution of NiMSA and extended a warm welcome to its delegates to join over 1,000 medical students from across the world. The Assembly, which was originally scheduled to hold in Muscat, Oman, will gather medical student leaders from more than 120 countries to discuss pressing global health challenges, medical education reforms, and the role of youth in advancing public health and human rights.
Speaking on Daniel’s selection, NiMSA President, Ahmadu Sardauna, praised his leadership, commitment, and teamwork. He further urged FUTA and the University’s Teaching Hospital to support Daniel in ensuring smooth participation at the event, which will feature policy sessions, workshops, cultural exchange programmes, and networking with global health leaders.
The IFMSA, founded in 1951, is the world’s oldest and largest student-led medical organization. It holds special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and is officially recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Medical Association (WMA) as the global representative body for medical students.
Daniel Olusade, who has served FUTAMSA with distinction, is widely regarded for his dedication to student welfare and advocacy for quality medical education. His selection has been described by the FUTA medical community as a testament to the University’s growing reputation for producing students who excel nationally and internationally.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, congratulated Daniel on his selection, describing it as a moment of pride for FUTA and encouraging other students to emulate his commitment to leadership and global engagement.
Daniel is expected to join fellow delegates from NiMSA in Ioannina, Greece, where they will contribute to shaping global health policies and building networks that will benefit Nigeria’s health sector.
