Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has urged former presidential candidate Peter Obi to forge an alliance within the opposition coalition if he hopes to surpass Atiku for the coalition's presidential nomination.
In a Facebook post, Adeyanju recounted how Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), nearly defeated Atiku in the 2022 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries.
He asserted that Obi and the other presidential candidates in the coalition could easily defeat Atiku if they put forth the effort.
As of today, Atiku is likely to easily secure the coalition ticket. I don't see others making enough effort to challenge him.
They seek the easy way out, similar to the charade that occurred between Obi and Pat Utomi during the Labour Party primaries in the last election.
Atiku is capable of being defeated in a primary election, as demonstrated by the 2014 APC primaries. Wike also nearly halted his progress if it hadn't been for Tambuwal's last-minute maneuver.
Adeyanju suggested that Obi should build alliances with important stakeholders in the north to stop him, rather than complaining on Twitter about deserving a free pass. He pointed out that this is a coalition and not the Labour Party, advising Obi to return to LP if he seeks an easy way in.
This follows Atiku's formal resignation from the PDP.
The former presidential candidate stated that the PDP strayed from its original principles, which led to his "heartbreaking" choice to leave.
