Renowned Nigerian actor Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, has disclosed the reasons behind the delay in his marriage.
The actor revealed this during his recent interview with media personality Chude Jideowon.
Discussing his personal life and career, the actor—who also serves as a theatre arts lecturer at Lagos State University of Education—shared that he got married at the age of 40.
Saka explained that his delay in getting married was due to a lack of confidence and money, remarking, "I'm now paying school fees with grey hair."
"I lack confidence and tend to be quite reserved. I married later in life mainly due to personal reasons and my career. At the time, theatre arts wasn't financially rewarding or widely recognized; we pursued it purely out of passion. The biggest challenge was that our training focused solely on acting rather than on how to earn a living through theatre."
When I finished, I had nothing—not even a car. Naturally, when I'd call someone for a date, they would look at me as if there was no future ahead of me. In fact, one woman told me that I was wasting my life and suggested that I leave the theater to pursue something more relevant.
"The woman I intended to marry insisted that I needed to own two cars before we could tie the knot. Then, it struck me that she might not be my true partner."
Saka finally met his wife, Olaide Oyetoro, and they got married in 2003. They have been blessed with three children.
