Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has commissioned a 150 kVA solar power project at the Abia State Specialist and Diagnostic Centre in Umuahia, ensuring a reliable electricity supply for critical healthcare services.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, Governor Otti hailed the initiative as a significant step toward sustainable infrastructure and the adoption of renewable energy. “This is a major milestone in our commitment to sustainable development,” he said, noting that the solar system will serve as the hospital’s primary power source, with the national grid as a backup, eliminating reliance on generators.
The Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Mr. Ikechukwu Monday, provided details of the project, which includes a 430 kWh battery storage facility and a 100 kVA inverter system dedicated to the hospital’s eye and pediatrics clinics. An additional 50 kVA system was installed to power the emergency theatre, ensuring uninterrupted electricity for life-saving procedures and essential medical equipment.
The Commissioner praised Governor Otti’s support, describing the project as a testament to the administration’s dedication to energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
This initiative marks a significant advancement in improving healthcare delivery through reliable and eco-friendly power solutions in Abia State.
