Starting My Career Late A Blessing In Disguise – Tiwa Savage

Award-winning Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has stated that starting her career in her 30s was a blessing in disguise, allowing her to develop a strong personal foundation before achieving fame.

In a recent interview with Afrobeats Intelligence, she said having witnessed the transience of success in the industry, she approached her career with intention, focusing on building a lasting legacy rather than being fazed by the trappings of fame.

She humorously revealed that she considered downplaying her age to fit the industry’s narrative but ultimately chose to remain authentic.

Savage said: “And for me, I personally think because I didn’t start at a young age, I had years of building a foundation of me as a person. Because my first single, I think I was in my 30s. Yeah. I’m not a kid at that point. So I wasn’t fazed by the fame and money, like a lot of people, you don’t have to deal with that. So, and by then, I’ll seen a lot of people come and go, come and go.

“So when my time came, it was just like, I know this, I know even last a year, two years. So I was very intentional in like making this sustaining a lasting career. So I think me starting at such a late age was also a blessing.

“At the time, I didn’t think it was though. Yeah, I didn’t think so. I felt like I started late. That was that was that’s very, very, very. I mean, a lot of people was not that smart to change my passport. I should have. I should have lied and told y’all I was like 22. You would have believed it. Yeah, we would have”.
