The Ven. Samuel Adekunle Ola Osungbeju was born 59 years ago to Catechist Joseph Ola Osungbeju and Mrs. Mary Olubunmi Osungbeju (both of blessed memory) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He attended both St. Mark’s School, Offa in Kwara State and St. Peter’s School, Ede in Old Oyo State between 1972 and 1979 for his primary education. He had his secondary education at Baptist High School, Ede between 1979 and 1984, and higher school education (HSC) at the same school in 1986.
The Ven. Samuel Adekunle Ola Osungbeju was trained for the pastoral ministry at Immanuel College of Theology and Christian Education, Ibadan, between 1989 and 1992. He was subsequently made a deacon by the Rt. Rev. Gideon I. O. Olajide, the retired Bishop of Old Ibadan Diocese on July 5, 1992, was priested on June 13, 1993.
Preferred a Honorary Canon (2002), Statutory Canon Canon ( 2003), Archdeacon ( 2005).
He has a bachelor degree in religious studies (second class upper) from the University of Ibadan in 1996. He also attended Yale University Divinity School, New Haven, CT, United States of America, for his Masters of Sacred Theology degree (STM). He also has a National Diploma in Fine Art from the Polytechnic, Ibadan in 2008; while he has a doctorate degree in Biblical Studies (New Testament) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa in 2015.
He is married to Mrs. Voctoria O. Osungbeju, and they are both blessed with promising children.
The Ven. Samuel Adekunle Ola Osungbeju started his pastoral ministry as Bishop’s Chaplain to the Rt. Rev. Gideon I. O. Olajide, the retired Bishop of Old Ibadan Diocese in 1992. He subsequently served in many parishes across the old Ibadan Diocese and beyond. He was part of the pioneer clergy of the new Diocese of Ibadan North at its creation in 1998 with the Rt. Rev. (later Most Rev.) Dr. Segun Okubadejo.
Those parishes include:
St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Agbowo –UI, Ibadan; St. Stephen’s Church, Inalende, Ibadan; St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Whittney Avenue, New Haven, CT., U.S.A., St. Paul’s Church, Yemetu ( Assisting priest, Vicar and Archdeacon); Bishop Akinyele Memorial Anglican Church, Iwo Road, Ibadan (Assisting priest, Vicar an Archdeacon), and presently, the Vicar of Bishop Oyebode Memorial Anglican Church, Agugu and the Archdeacon, Agugu Archdeaconry, just to mention but few.
The Ven. Dr. Samuel Adekunle Ola Osungbeju has been the Synod secretary of the Diocese of Ibadan North – Anglican Communion from 2008 to date as well as the Clerical Secretary of the Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province from 2009 to date.
He has authored the following books, including his academic research works:
The Origins of the Christian Faith; The Ten Spiritual Gifts to the Church; the Friendship and Betrayal: A Narrative Reading of Matthew 26; 7-56 in the light of the concept of Oreodale of the Yoruba People in Nigeria; The Catechism in the 1662 Book of Common Prayer: A Handbook for the Catechumens and Church Leaders; The Global Coronavirus Pandemic: The Emergence of the Christian Church with a New Horizon (Reflections on Matthew Chapter 25).
The Ven. Samuel Adekunle Ola Osungbeju’s hobbies include: Church Music (Organ), theological reflections, writings, and evangelism. He is currently serving under the Most Rev Dr. W.O. Aladekugbe.
