In preparation for the upcoming local government election in Lagos State, the state police command announced on Wednesday that all vehicular movement will be completely restricted from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 12.
According to a statement by the command's spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, the restriction will be enforced on all roads and waterways throughout the state.
The directive also banned armed escorts and security personnel from being present at polling stations and collation centers throughout the state.
It also announced a ban on the unrestricted use of sirens and covered number plates.
Police escorts and armed security personnel are not allowed to accompany their principals to polling stations or collation centers. This rule is in place to prevent any undue influence or intimidation during the election process.
"The statement added that sirens are not allowed at or near polling units and collation centers. Additionally, only vehicles designated for essential services, such as ambulances, are permitted."
However, the command clarified that observers and media practitioners covering the election, who have been accredited by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), are exempt from vehicular restrictions.
